Corresponding with Russian women online can be challenging if you are not familiar with Russian mentality and Russian culture. Many Western guys often wonder why the ladies they were corresponding with suddenly stopped writing to them or changed their tone from loving and friendly to cold and official.
The mistakes that American men make are usually common, predictable and therefore, easily preventable. Here are 5 things to avoid when corresponding with Russian women online. If you remember these, your chances to develop a relationship with a Russian woman will increase dramatically and possibly lead to marriage.
- Don’t express too much concern about money, especially in the beginning of your correspondence. In Russian culture it is considered to be in bad taste to talk about money in the beginning of your relationship. If in your first letter you ask a woman if she is planning to work when she comes to the United States, it will most likely turn her off. Most Russian women work and will be happy to work, but your open concern about it (especially in the first letters) will offend her.
If it is important for you that your future wife works, you can talk about it later on if or when things get more serious.
- Don’t tell her that you would love to visit her, but can’t afford it. Also don’t complain how expensive it is to call to Russia. As I mentioned before, money talk is not appropriate when you are trying to win a woman’s heart (unless, of course, you promise to spoil her by buying her a house and a Lexus). Women will feel unimportant and worthless if you bring up how costly your relationship is becoming for you.
Another reason why you shouldn’t say it is that Russians simply don’t understand the American money system. Russians wonder why Americans, who technically earn more than Russians, complain that they don’t have money to travel. Life in Russia is different. Russians rarely have mortgages and credit cards; they also don’t usually have retirement accounts or savings accounts. Taxes are not taken out of their paychecks either. A typical Russian gets their monthly paycheck, pays bills, saves some for vacation/travel or future big purchase and spends the rest. Most Russians go on vacation every year, because travel and vacations are important to them.
If it is expensive for you to call or if you think that plane fares are a rip-off, keep it to yourself or tell it to your buddies at work.
If it is expensive for you to travel, don’t say that you have to save money for another year to be able to afford a plane ticket. You can simply say that you can’t travel yet because of your job (which will not necessarily be a lie).
- Don’t say that you are looking for a Russian wife because you heard that they are submissive and cook well. First of all, it is a myth that Russian women are submissive. Second of all, if you say you are hunting for Russian women due to their cooking and cleaning abilities, she will assume that you are looking for a housekeeper instead of a wife.
- Don’t be ignorant. Russian women love intelligent men, so do your research before saying something like “I know that Russia is very cold” or asking her how much vodka she can drink.
- Finally, be a gentleman. Forget about feminism and treat the woman the old-fashioned way. Be generous on compliments. Be polite and courteous in your letters. Avoid slang and obscene words at all cost not only because Russian women don’t like it, but also because she will have a hard time trying to translate your letters to her.
Dating Russian women online might be challenging, but it is also fun and rewarding. If you make an effort to learn her culture and be sensitive, you will avoid culture clashes and will not only have a successful online relationship, but will have a happy marriage later on as well.
